An authentic Valpolicella Classico Superiore from Veneto by Marilisa Allegrini
The estate
Created in 2008 with the acquisition of Villa Della Torre by Marilisa Allegrini, this estate covers over 100 hectares in Veneto, in the heart of Valpolicella Classico in Fumane. Marilisa Allegrini, nicknamed "Lady Amarone" and president of the eponymous group, now runs the company with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina after parting ways with the traditional family branch. The vineyard, planted mainly with corvinone, corvina, and rondinella, benefits from silty-clay limestone soils and an optimal east/southeast exposure. This emblematic estate perfectly illustrates Marilisa Allegrini's expansionist vision beyond the historic family estate.
The vineyard
This Valpolicella Classico Superiore comes from the Villa Della Torre vineyard, located in the classic area of Fumane di Valpolicella. Situated at 124 meters above sea level, the vineyard enjoys a favorable east/southeast exposure. The silty-clay soils with a calcareous content provide a terroir well-suited to the expression of traditional grape varieties. The vines, aged an average of 10 years, are trained using the Guyot system with a planting density of 4,545 vines per hectare.
Winemaking and aging
Hand harvesting takes place between late September and early October. After gentle pressing, fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks over a period of 3 weeks. Malolactic fermentation then follows, with aging combining 6 months in concrete tanks, 12 months in 600-liter French oak barrels, and then 12 months of bottle maturation.
Grape varieties
This Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a Blend of corvinone (70%), corvina (20%), and rondinella (10%).
