Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2022 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals a lovely red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of very ripe red fruit, dominated by cherry and Burlat cherry jam. It then gains complexity with spicy touches, well-integrated oak, and nuances of black tea, fresh leather, blond tobacco, faded rose and a hint of eucalyptus.
Palate
The attack is round, introducing a generous, ample, mouth-coating texture supported by caressing tannins. The mid-palate offers perfect concentration and lovely fruity vivacity. The remarkably long finish is slightly tight and tangy, revealing citrus notes such as lemon and mandarin.
Food and Wine Pairings
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with refined poultry dishes such as guinea fowl with morels or duck breast with cherries. It also enhances noble meats such as beef tournedos or roast rack of lamb, as well as autumnal mushroom dishes. As for cheeses, it is an ideal match for soft, creamy varieties such as Brillat-Savarin or Saint-Nectaire.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment of the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2022, we recommend serving it between 15 and 18°C in a large Burgundy glass. In its youth, vigorous decanting for an hour will be beneficial. Built to stand the test of time, this wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2047.
The Power and Elegance of a Great Vosne-Romanée Wine
The Estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate farms prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, expressing all the finesse of the Burgundian terroir.
The Vineyard
The climat "Aux Brûlées" lies on the upper part of the village of Vosne-Romanée, benefiting from an easterly exposure and the coolness of the neighbouring combe. The vines, mostly planted in the 1930s, are rooted in shallow soils of Prémeaux limestone with chailles. The surface is covered with gravel that promotes drainage and warms the soil, providing an ideal terroir for the development of small, highly concentrated grapes.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage stands out for its generous sunshine and water deficit. The dry, bright spring encouraged rapid vegetative growth, followed by an early and trouble-free flowering at the end of May. June, although sunny, brought welcome rain that put an end to the drought. The harvest began at the end of August in mild weather, yielding healthy grapes of even ripeness.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes destined for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2022 are hand-harvested in small crates, carefully sorted and then fully destemmed. Vinification favours gentle extraction, with rigorous temperature control and late punch-downs. The wine is then aged for an average of 17 months in the finest oak barrels from the forests of Bertranges and Tronçais. Bottling is carried out by gravity, without any fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
