Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 Morey-Blanc

Tasting

Colour
Displaying a pale to medium-intensity golden yellow hue, this white wine from France stands out for its clarity and luminous reflections.

Nose
Remarkably complex, the bouquet first reveals aromas of orchard fruits such as apple and pear, mingled with notes of candied citrus and mandarin oil. With aeration, it develops nuances of honeyed yellow fruits, pastry cream, brioche and a delicate hint of vanilla, complemented by scents of dried white flowers, beeswax and almond.

Palate
The attack is lively, carried by a beautiful tension reminiscent of lime. The palate then unfolds a generous volume and silky texture, underpinned by a very precise, chalky mineral framework. The finish, remarkably persistent, lingers on notes of white peach and citrus, enhanced by fine, invigorating bitter notes and a subtle tannic presence.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as foie gras pâté, firm-fleshed shellfish like lobster or langoustine, and fine fish. It also elevates quality poultry or veal sweetbreads, particularly when served with a creamy mushroom sauce.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate the complexity of the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine, built for ageing, can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2040.

The Mineral Expression and Precision of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Morey-Blanc

The Estate

Based in Meursault, the Morey family has been growing vines in Burgundy since the sixteenth century. While the family estate took its modern form in 1971, the Morey-Blanc trading house was established in 1992 to distribute wines from rigorous selections. A pioneer, the estate adopted biodynamic principles as early as 1991, reflecting its deep respect for the environment and its terroirs. Today, Anne Morey presides over the commercial entity while Pierre Marcel Claude Morey serves as managing director, upholding a technical expertise and philosophy of excellence across some ten hectares.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from a tiny 0.49-hectare plot ideally located in the upper part of the Bâtard-Montrachet lieu-dit, just below the famous Montrachet. Planted in 1992 at an altitude ranging from 240 to 250 metres, these vines benefit from an excellent south and south-west exposure. The terroir, dating back to the Jurassic period, consists of rich, shallow soils resting on a rocky subsoil of brown limestone and gravel, providing optimal natural drainage. All of these vines are cultivated using biodynamic methods.

The Vintage

2022 marked the return of a generous harvest after the challenges of the previous year. The growing season was marked by pronounced heat and low rainfall. Despite a slight frost episode in April, the season broke sunshine records, favouring early ripening of the berries. Ideal weather conditions allowed grapes to be harvested in perfect health as early as the end of August.

Winemaking and Aging

Following manual harvesting in small crates, the grapes are sorted, lightly crushed, then gently pressed. The must undergoes static settling, preserving the fine lees, before being barrelled in oak casks in the estate's vaulted cellars. Alcoholic fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts. The making of the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2022 continues with regular lees stirring until winter, followed by an autumn racking. The wine is then aged on fine lees for sixteen to twenty months, with possible fining, without systematic filtration.
