Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Meursault Village "Clos du Cromin" 2022 Patrick Javillier
Tasting notes
Colour
This wine reveals a beautiful pale golden colour.
Nose
Highly expressive, the nose immediately reveals seductive aromas of yellow fruit. It then opens onto notes of stone fruit and orchard fruit at perfect ripeness, particularly evoking apple and pear.
Palate
The palate offers a round, supple texture, enriched by careful lees ageing that gives it a lovely fullness. The whole is fresh, perfectly balanced and underpinned by a pronounced mineral backbone. The finish, persistent and pleasant, lingers on delicate touches of citrus and minerality.
Food and wine pairing
In its youth, this white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood and shellfish such as oysters, scallops or langoustines. It also goes very well with cold terrines, charcuterie as well as white meats and poultry, whether simply roasted or served with a cream sauce. After a few years in the cellar, it will beautifully complement foie gras or matured cheeses such as goat's cheese and blue-veined cheeses.
Service and storage
This Meursault Village "Clos du Cromin" 2022 can be enjoyed now for its vibrant fruit, but it also has the structure needed to continue evolving in the cellar until around 2032.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13%.
The elegance and minerality of a Meursault white wine
The estate
Founded in 1945 by Raymond Javillier in Meursault, in Burgundy (France), the estate originally spanned just two hectares. In 1974, Patrick Javillier took over the reins and brought a vision combining technical precision with respect for the terroir. Today, the estate covers around thirteen hectares. It is brilliantly run by the third generation, embodied by current owners Marion Javillier and her husband Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy, who continue this philosophy of excellence, parcel-by-parcel winemaking and extended ageing.
The vineyard
The "Clos du Cromin" plot covers around one hectare in the northern part of the Meursault appellation, near the border with Volnay. South and southeast-facing, the vines benefit from optimal sun exposure. The terroir stands out for its deep soils, particularly rich in clay, with rocky outcrops present in the lower section. The estate practises sustainable viticulture, with simple Guyot pruning and rigorous canopy management to ensure the health and optimal ripeness of the grapes.
The vintage
2022 is recognised as a particularly successful vintage in Burgundy. The growing season unfolded under very favourable weather conditions, allowing the berries to reach excellent phenolic ripeness. This ideal climatic balance encouraged sugar development while preserving lovely acidity, thereby ensuring the freshness and elegance characteristic of the region's great white wines.
Winemaking and ageing
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are pressed in a Vaslin press to preserve as much solid matter as possible. The Meursault Village "Clos du Cromin" 2022 ferments in oak barrels through indigenous yeasts, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for around a year in oak barrels, before continuing its maturation in tank on fine lees for several months, a signature method of the estate for developing the cuvée's complexity.
