Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Meursault 2022 Patrick Javillier
Tasting Notes
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful white hue.
Nose
Delicate and highly fragrant, the bouquet reveals wonderful expressiveness. It exudes consistent aromas of yellow fruit and white flowers, sometimes enhanced by subtle spicy notes and stone fruit depending on the blended plots.
Palate
On the palate, this wine is at once fleshy, concentrated and structured. It offers abundant freshness carried by crisp citrus notes and lovely acidic tension. The whole lingers into a long, fine and vibrant finish, marked by a delicate saline touch.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate fish or seafood, such as grilled lobster or prawns with garlic butter. It also enhances poultry and veal in white or creamy sauces, as well as soft or blue cheeses. For a bolder pairing, it can accompany teriyaki chicken.
Serving and Storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Meursault 2022 at a temperature between 11 and 14°C. With its fine structure, it can be enjoyed young but will continue to evolve, remaining drinkable until around 2032.
The Authentic and Structured Expression of a Meursault White Wine
The Estate
Founded in 1945 by Raymond Javillier from two hectares of vines, Domaine Patrick Javillier is a key figure in Burgundy. Located in the heart of Meursault, the estate now spans approximately 10 to 11 hectares across fourteen appellations. Historically run by Patrick Javillier since 1974, the family estate is now managed by his daughter, Marion Javillier, who oversees the property and the red wines, while Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy supervises the vineyard and the white winemaking. The estate stands out for its philosophy of blending complementary terroirs.
The Vineyard
Regarded as the capital of great white wines, Meursault's terroir rests on soils composed of Jurassic marl and marly limestone, with subsoils of hard Comblanchian limestone. The vines benefit from an ideal altitude of around 260 metres and an exposure ranging from east to south, promoting optimal grape ripening while preserving acidity. The estate favours an environmentally friendly, sustainable approach and harvests exclusively by hand using perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage follows a previous year marked by devastating frost. The growing cycle began with a mild winter followed by early budburst in May, avoiding the serious consequences of an April frost. Summer proved particularly hot and dry, with heatwaves in August, making this one of the hottest years of the century in the region. However, timely rainfall at the end of June helped avoid water stress, resulting in an abundant harvest and grapes of excellent quality with beautiful ripeness.
Winemaking and Ageing
The estate's philosophy for this Meursault 2022 is based on meticulous plot-by-plot winemaking. Pressing is carried out using open Vaslin-type presses, a deliberately oxidative method that promotes future aromatic development. The musts undergo moderate lees stirring before malolactic fermentation. Ageing first takes place in oak barrels (with around 25% new oak) for nearly a year, followed by extended ageing on fine lees in tank. The final blend of the different plots is carried out with precision before bottling.
