Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 from Pierre Girardin
Tasting
Colour
In its youth, this white wine shows a clear, brilliant hue with silvery or green highlights, which will evolve towards more golden shades with time.
Nose
The bouquet reveals beautiful complexity, blending aromas of white-fleshed fruit and citrus with delicate touches of white flowers. Subtle buttery and toasty notes from the ageing complete the picture.
Palate
The palate captivates with its generous texture and perfectly controlled power. Balance is provided by a lovely freshness that draws the wine out into a long finish marked by minerality.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs ideally with noble fish such as turbot or sea bass, as well as with seafood and shellfish. It will also be a wonderful match for poultry in sauce or a platter of mature cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Decanting for 30 to 60 minutes can be beneficial in its youth. This wine has good ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2039.
The Generosity and Minerality of a Bâtard-Montrachet from the Côte de Beaune
The Estate
Founded in 2016 in Meursault, Pierre Girardin quickly established itself in the landscape of Burgundy, France. Representing the thirteenth generation of his family, Pierre-Vincent Girardin, the current owner, launched his project at a very young age, relying on family vines and targeted grape purchases. The vineyard extends over approximately 6.5 hectares in Burgundy and 6.2 hectares in the Jura. The estate stands out for its minimal-intervention approach, environmentally respectful viticulture and the use of made-to-measure barrels, aiming to express the purity of each terroir.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Bâtard-Montrachet cuvée come from plots located in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, in the southern part of the appellation. The vines thrive on a terroir of clay-limestone and rocky soils. The estate favours sustainable farming, drawing on organic practices without claiming certification, and harvests exclusively by hand.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winemaking of this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 is intended to be as non-interventionist as possible. Ageing begins with a twelve-month period in 456-litre oak barrels, made to measure for the estate, with 50% new oak. The wine is then aged for a further seven months in stainless steel tanks before bottling, in order to preserve its tension and clarity.
