Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a pale gold hue enhanced by green highlights.
Nose
Wonderfully delicate, the nose reveals a chalky, stony minerality. It opens with aromas of citrus fruit, baked apple, pineapple and lime, enriched by subtle touches of cinnamon, fern, juniper and honey.
Palate
The palate offers a remarkable balance between lovely acidity and rounded opulence. The mineral expression of the terroir unfolds with vivacity and precision, favouring aromatic freshness.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with white fish accompanied by delicate sauces, a truffle or mushroom risotto, as well as shellfish such as lobster or crab. It will also enhance poultry in cream sauce or blue cheeses.
Service and storage
Boasting remarkable ageing potential, this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "La Croix" 2022 can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2047, or even beyond for those who favour more evolved notes.
The mineral elegance of a great white Burgundy by Pierre Girardin
The estate
Founded in 2017 by Pierre-Vincent Girardin, representing the thirteenth generation of a family of winegrowers, this 13-hectare estate is located in Burgundy, France. Now run by Pierre Girardin himself, the estate has quickly earned international renown thanks to its minimalist approach. Cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic farming, following the lunar calendar, the vineyard produces wines of remarkable precision. The producer favours an authentic expression of terroir, creating rare and highly sought-after cuvées.
The vineyard
This Corton-Charlemagne comes from plots of 60-year-old vines, spread across the slopes of Ladoix and Pernand. This unique terroir rises to an altitude of up to 388 metres and benefits from a distinctive west-facing exposure. The highly heterogeneous soils are composed of Jurassic limestone, chalky marl, clay and iron-rich oolite, forcing the roots to dig deep into the bedrock.
The vintage
2022 offered very favourable weather conditions, allowing for generous yields and excellent quality. The accelerated growing cycle led to a particularly early harvest, starting in mid-August. This early timing made it possible to pick grapes at perfect ripeness while preserving essential freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
The philosophy in the cellar is guided by minimal intervention. This Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru "La Croix" 2022 is aged in custom-made 456-litre barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak, in order to preserve aromatic brilliance and limit woody influence. Bottling is carried out in line with the lunar calendar, during a waning moon phase, without any fining or filtration.
