Description
The richness and mineral complexity of a great white Burgundy
The estate
Founded in 1877 in the heart of Beaune, the house of Remoissenet Père et Fils is a true institution in Burgundy. After building a solid reputation for its fine wines, the estate underwent a major qualitative renewal following its acquisition in 2005 by brothers Edward and Howard Milstein, the current majority owners. Drawing on its own vineyard of around 11 hectares farmed according to biodynamic principles, this historic estate today combines a haute-couture négociant business with a demanding estate production, revealing the excellence of Burgundy's terroirs.
The vineyard
This white wine comes from the prestigious Charmes terroir, the largest of the premier crus in the Meursault appellation. The vines, aged between 60 and 75 years and derived from massale selection, thrive on plots benefiting from an ideal south-east exposure. The soil, of great complexity, blends marl and deep clay with a purely limestone substrate. The entire vineyard is rigorously cultivated according to biodynamic principles, encouraging the authentic and profound expression of this exceptional terroir.
The vintage
The year 2023 began with a mild, dry winter leading to early budbreak in late March, followed by a cool spring that slowed the vegetative cycle. After a sunny June that favored growth, the beginning of August turned gloomy and humid, delaying veraison. However, an intense heatwave starting on August 20 suddenly accelerated ripening. Thanks to green harvesting carried out in July to regulate the vines' yield, the grapes were able to reach perfect balance before an early harvest that began at the end of August.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2023 begins with a manual harvest in small crates. The whole clusters undergo gentle pneumatic pressing to preserve the integrity of the juice. Fermentation starts naturally through indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 18 to 22 months in French oak barrels of 228 and 342 liters, with a proportion of new wood ranging from 30 to 70%. Malolactic fermentation is carefully managed to preserve all the wine's energy and freshness.

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2023 by Remoissenet Père et Fils
Tasting
Color
Beautifully clear, the wine reveals a brilliant straw-yellow hue with deep golden reflections.
Nose
Complex and expressive, the bouquet exudes lush aromas of candied lemon, brioche, and roasted hazelnut, harmoniously underscored by delicate floral notes of acacia and a mineral streak reminiscent of gunflint.
Palate
Full-bodied and generous, the palate delights with its rich texture and natural intensity. A lovely saline tension and vibrant acidity balance this opulence, extending the wine toward a persistent, remarkably fresh finish.
Food and wine pairing
This great white wine is superb with shellfish and fine fish such as sole meunière, turbot, or lobster. It also pairs beautifully with white meats in creamy sauces, saffron-infused scallops, or well-aged cheeses like Époisses.
Service and storage
This Meursault 1er Cru "Charmes" 2023 can be enjoyed now, but its structural qualities will allow it to age gracefully in the cellar, evolving favorably through at least 2030.
