The Tension and Minerality of a Great White Wine from the Languedoc
The Estate
Founded in 1999, Roc d'Anglade is located in Langlade, in the heart of the Languedoc. This historic terroir, whose reputation dates back to the Middle Ages, was even singled out by Louis XIV. Today, Rémy Pédréno runs the estate, supported by his wife Martine. On a twelve-hectare vineyard, the winemaker follows an artisanal approach that respects all living things. Prioritising freshness and precision, he crafts singular cuvées that have become essential references for lovers of great wines from the south of France.
The Vineyard
Classified as IGP Pays du Gard, the vineyard dedicated to white grape varieties covers four hectares. The vines, around 25 years old, are planted on limestone marl and siliceous clay soils. Unusually for the region, the plots are predominantly north-facing, which helps preserve great freshness. The estate is certified organic, with a strong biodynamic inspiration, fostering local biodiversity amid the garrigue. Yields are particularly low, limited to around 15 hl/ha.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand. For Roc d'Anglade 2024, the grapes are whole-bunch pressed, followed by 24 hours of cold settling. The must is then transferred to barrel by gravity to ferment with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place on fine lees for twelve months in demi-muids and foudres, before finishing with six months in stainless steel tanks, with some lees stirring if necessary. The wine undergoes a very light non-sterile filtration before bottling.
Grape Varieties
70% Chenin, 10% Chardonnay, 10% Grenache Blanc, 5% Grenache Gris, 5% Carignan Blanc.
