The elegance and expression of a renowned Barolo by Sandrone Luciano
The estate
An iconic reference, the Luciano Sandrone Estate was founded in 1978. Located in the heart of Piedmont, the estate spans 27 hectares across Barolo, Serralunga and Castiglione Falletto. Following the passing of Luciano Sandrone in 2023, the estate is now run by his daughter Barbara, his brother Luca and his wife Mariuccia. The estate practices natural viticulture without chemical products, with limited yields. Cultivating nebbiolo, dolcetto and barbera on the prestigious parcels of Cannubi Boschis, Villero and Vignane, Sandrone Luciano embodies the excellence of Barolo.
The vineyard
This Barolo comes from the Cannubi Boschis vineyard, located on the Cannubi hill, with a south-east exposure. The terroir is characterized by moderately compact marl soils, composed of layers of clay interwoven with sand. This parcel benefits from a privileged location on the northern extension of the Cannubi hill, considered one of the finest crus of the appellation.
The vintage
The year 2016 began with a mild and dry winter, followed by a cool and wet spring in April and May. The summer proved uneven, before September and October brought warm days and cool nights. These conditions gave rise to a classic vintage, producing powerful and elegant wines characterized by slow evolution. The harvest took place from October 13 to 22.
Winemaking and aging
The Aleste "Sibi et Paucis" 2016 benefited from spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Maceration and alcoholic fermentation took place in open-top steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation and aging were carried out in 500-liter French oak casks. This "Sibi et Paucis" cuvée was then further aged for an additional 6 years in the producer’s personal "Wine Library" after its initial release date in September 2020.
Grape variety
Nebbiolo (100%).
