Abuelo, a name that fondly evokes the wisdom of elders, draws its uniqueness from a history spanning over a century of passion and dedication. Founded in 1908 in Panama by Don José Varela Blanco, a visionary young Spanish immigrant, the distillery began as a sugar mill before transforming in 1936 into a rum producer at the request of the founder’s sons. Since then, the Varela Hermanos family business has perpetuated the ancestral art of rum production, marrying artisanal know-how passed down through generations with timeless rigor. Now a source of national pride, Abuelo rum, notably with its emblematic 12 Years Old released in 2008, has won over the most discerning palates, embodying a century of tradition, prestige, and perfection in the world of high-end rum.

Centuria by Abuelo is the most prestigious expression of the House’s century-old heritage, an exceptional rum crafted to celebrate one hundred years of mastery and passion. This extremely rare blend brings together the oldest family reserves—rums aged on average thirty years, some exceeding forty—matured using the traditional Spanish Solera method in ex-whisky and bourbon casks under Panama’s tropical climate. Representing only 5% of total production, this exceptional cuvée is presented in an elegant wooden case, a testament to its status as a collector’s and connoisseur’s rum.
