A 15-year-old Bas-Armagnac with rancio aromas from Maison Delord
Maison Delord, a century-old heritage of French Bas-Armagnac
Founded in 1893 by Prosper Delord, an itinerant distiller, this French Armagnac house settled permanently in Lannepax in 1925. Located in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, the appellation’s premier cru, Delord cultivates 55 hectares of ugni blanc, colombard, folle blanche, and baco. Now run by Jérôme and Sylvain Delord, the fourth generation, it stands out for using two distillation methods and boasts an exceptional heritage of 1,400 casks, including vintages dating back to 1904.
The traditional production of 15-year-old Bas-Armagnac
This 15-year-old Bas-Armagnac is crafted from the four traditional grape varieties: ugni blanc, colombard, baco, and folle blanche. Traditional winemaking yields an aromatic wine, slightly acidic and low in alcohol. Distillation takes place in a continuous column still fitted with “spider-leg” plates, a method particularly suited to producing aged Armagnacs.
Aging begins in new French oak casks with a medium toast, then continues in semi-used or used casks for optimal refinement. This slow maturation over a minimum of 15 years develops the signature aromatic complexity, with its rancio notes so prized by Armagnac enthusiasts.
