An Exceptional 25-Year-Old Bas-Armagnac with Pronounced Rancio Notes
The House of Delord, Four Generations Dedicated to Armagnac
Founded in 1893 by Prosper Delord, a travelling distiller, this family estate in Lannepax has perpetuated the art of Armagnac in France for four generations. Today run by Jérôme and Sylvain Delord, the property cultivates 55 hectares in the heart of Bas-Armagnac with four traditional grape varieties: ugni blanc, colombard, baco and folle blanche. Delord stands out for its rare dual technical mastery of continuous distillation and double heating, as well as its 1,400 oak barrels which allow for an exceptional aging of its eaux-de-vie.
A 25-Year-Old Bas-Armagnac Crafted by Traditional Methods
This Delord 25 Years Old is the result of traditional vinification aimed at producing an aromatic wine with slight acidity and low alcohol. Distillation is carried out using the continuous method in column stills equipped with “spider leg” plates, an emblematic technique of Armagnac. Aging begins in new French oak barrels with medium toast, then continues with a finish in “semi-used” or “used” casks, allowing this spirit to develop its complex sweet spice aromas and characteristic rancio notes for at least 25 years. This traditional aging method, combined with the House of Delord’s century-old expertise, grants this Bas-Armagnac all its nobility and exceptional character.
