Description

Tasting characteristics and tips for the Hors d'Âge 6 Years Old from Habitation Bellevue

Tasting

Appearance

A golden coppery amber hue with orange highlights, presented in an elegant decanter.

Nose

Intense aromas of exotic fruits with passion fruit, mango and fresh lychee. A “mature wood” oakiness lingers in the background, evoking a cognac-like style.

Palate

A gentle opening followed by orange peel, passion fruit and fresh lychee. Dried fruits then emerge, with currants and stewed apple. Spices develop through the mid-palate with pastry-like notes, accompanied by a rich, silky texture that leads to a calm, smooth finish.

Food pairings and tasting moments

Enjoy neat as a digestif between 18 and 20°C, or with a dessert made with caramelized apples. For a more intense experience, it can be savored with a cigar.

Mixology

This exceptional rum is best enjoyed without any embellishment to fully appreciate its complexity and its remarkable length on the palate.

An aged rum from Marie-Galante with intensely exotic notes

Habitation Bellevue, Marie-Galante’s eco-positive distillery

Founded in 1769 in Guadeloupe and distilling since 1821, Habitation Bellevue is located in Capesterre-de-Marie-Galante, at the heart of the island’s largest sugarcane plantation. First owned by the Godefroy family and then by the Damoiseau brothers, this distillery stands as the largest on Marie-Galante and Guadeloupe’s leading exporter, producing more than 900,000 liters each year. Its exceptional character lies in its status as the world’s only eco-positive distillery, its 1821 windmill still in operation—the only functioning mill in the Caribbean—and its two Creole columns. Regularly awarded medals at the Concours Général Agricole, it produces agricole and molasses rums aged in French and American oak barrels.

A limited-edition aged rum

The Hors d'Âge 6 Years Old Habitation Bellevue is crafted from a blend of agricole rum made from pure sugarcane juice and molasses rum. After a slow 40-hour fermentation, this rum from Guadeloupe is distilled in the distillery’s two copper Creole columns. It is then aged for 6 years in French and American oak barrels in the aging cellar. This cuvée is produced in a limited edition of more than 1,000 decanters per year. Each decanter is hand-bottled at the estate and individually numbered, attesting to the artisanal and exclusive nature of this production. Bottled at 45% abv, this aged rum was, until May 2021, exclusively available at the distillery shop before being marketed in mainland France.
