Habitation Velier: the excellence of Pure Single Rum
Habitation Velier was born from the collaboration between Luca Gargano, owner of Velier since 1983, and artisanal distillers using pot stills. This groundbreaking project created the “Pure Single Rum” category, a pure expression of sugarcane through batch distillation. Produced in various regions including South Africa, Habitation Velier champions an educational mission: to inform about true artisanal distillation techniques. Supported by La Maison & Velier (a joint venture led by Thierry Benitah), the project stands out for its pedagogical approach and pursuit of authenticity, setting new standards of excellence in the world of premium rum.
MHOBA: the art of South African artisanal distillation
Rum MHOBA takes its name from the SiSwati word “umhoba,” meaning sugarcane, reflecting its deep roots in the Malalane region. Crafted from NKomazi sugarcane juice, a variety that grows in the Mpumalanga River valley, this spirit benefits from fully artisanal small-batch production. Double distillation is carried out in custom-built pot stills, with a rigorous selection of the finest hearts of the run. This traditional method, combined with the use of local sugarcane, gives MHOBA its unique character and exceptional concentration of congeners, a testament to the authenticity and artisanal know-how of this remarkable South African distillery.
