Characteristics and tasting advice for Renegade White Old Bacolet Long Fermentation d'Habitation Velier
Tasting
Nose
Expressive and bright, marked by a striking vegetal freshness. The nose reveals juicy, crunchy cane, underscored by notes of green mango and dried hay. With aeration, a tangy, floral touch extends this invigorating opening.
Palate
Herbaceous and taut, the palate evokes green apple skin, a hint of tarragon, and a streak of white pepper. The texture is lively and well-balanced, offering consistency between the aromas perceived on the nose and on the palate. The finish, long and distinctive, turns saline—almost mineral—stretching into spicy accents of fresh cardamom and grated kaffir lime, delivering an original, lingering sensation of freshness.

A white rum from Grenada with a unique terroir expression
Habitation Velier: an essential reference
Founded in 1947 in Genoa, Velier has established itself as a merchant and selector of exceptional rums under the impetus of Luca Gargano, owner since 1983. Since July 2025, Thierry Benitah has chaired Habitation Velier, a structure distinguished by its expertise in rare and vintage rums.
A world first from Renegade and Habitation Velier
Renegade White Old Bacolet Long Fermentation marks the first time Habitation Velier has bottled a white rum from the Renegade distillery, founded in 2020. This cuvée comes exclusively from the Cain sugarcane variety, grown on the Old Bacolet plot on Grenada’s south coast, in a sedimentary alluvial-plain terroir between two rivers.
This rum benefits from a long fermentation of pure cane juice, a key method in the Renegade philosophy designed to exalt the individuality of terroirs and the purity of the distillate. This single-plot, single-variety, single-distillation approach reveals the authentic expression of cane juice and Grenadian terroir. The result is a white rum with an exceptional aromatic profile, showcasing the expertise of this distillery.
