Characteristics and tasting advice for Octomore Edition 16.1
Tasting
Nose
Peat smoke, dried heather, chamomile, vanilla, and toasted almond intertwine in a broad, rich bouquet.
Palate
The attack charms with its delicate peat smoke. As the tasting unfolds, savory aromas of caramel, melon, apricot, chocolate, and coconut emerge. The finish releases a peppery, caramelized touch supported by a lovely salinity.
A Scottish Islay whisky combining power and refinement
Octomore: the brand that pushes the limits of peatiness
Created in 2008 at the Bruichladdich distillery by master distiller Jim McEwan and Mark Reynier, Octomore is a revolutionary Scottish Islay whisky. Now owned by Rémy Cointreau, it holds the world record for the most peated whisky, with levels exceeding 200 ppm. Its name comes from a historic farm located near Port Charlotte. Octomore uses a unique numbering system (.1, .2, .3, .4) distinguishing barley types and maturation. Produced in limited editions since 2008, it combines extreme peaty intensity with remarkable aromatic complexity.
Edition 16.1: one of the most peated whiskies in the world
Made from 100% Scottish barley (Concerto) grown at the Octomore farm on the Isle of Islay, this whisky is aged for five years in first-fill bourbon casks.
