Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 Thibault Liger-Belair

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful red hue with a delicately translucent appearance.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals scents of red and black cherry, accompanied by floral notes of violet and a subtle touch of rose petal. Fine spicy nuances complete this complex ensemble.

Palate
The attack shows a light, well-defined structure, underlined by notes of liquorice. The mid-palate unfolds delicious flavours of black cherry and blackcurrant, carried by a lovely acidity that brings plenty of freshness. The silky texture stretches into a persistent, mineral finish, which will soften with time.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with flavourful meats such as duck, goose or preparations based on feathered game.

Service and storage

The Chambolle-Musigny Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 is a wine built for ageing. It will continue to develop its complexity and can be kept in the cellar until around 2037.

The elegance and purity of a Chambolle-Musigny wine

The estate

Heir to a long family tradition, Thibault Liger-Belair founded his own estate in 2001. Located in the heart of Burgundy in France, the estate initially spanned around ten hectares. Driven by a deep commitment to respecting ecosystems, the winemaker quickly adopted organic and biodynamic methods. Today, the Thibault Liger-Belair estate is recognised for its low-intervention approach and meticulous soil management, producing cuvées that faithfully express the singularity of each terroir.

The vineyard

This cuvée comes from five distinct plots spread across the four corners of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation: Les Mal Carrées, Les Maladières, Derrière le Four, Les Fremières and Les Gamaires. Facing south-east, the vines, planted between 1952 and 1963, thrive on soils composed of fine clay resting on a limestone base. The vineyard is cultivated with deliberately limited yields and particular attention to soil health, thereby fostering an authentic expression.

The vintage

The year began with a growing season marked by hot, dry conditions. However, the harvest period benefited from noticeably cooler and rainier weather. This shift in weather helped avoid water stress, resulting in berries with an ideal balance of vitality and freshness.

Winemaking and ageing

The creation of the Chambolle-Musigny Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 is based on a minimalist philosophy. After a rigorous manual sorting, fermentation takes place over three weeks, incorporating 40% whole clusters to favour gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for eighteen months in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of 30% new oak and 70% used barrels, in order to preserve the subtlety of the aromas.
