Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 Thibault Liger-Belair
Tasting
Colour
Clear and bright, the colour reveals a beautiful garnet-red hue enhanced by delicate violet highlights.
Nose
Remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet exudes scents of black fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry, harmoniously blended with floral notes of violet and peony. Subtle touches of liquorice and delicate hints of vanilla round out the whole.
Palate
Combining power and elegance, the palate offers a voluptuous texture supported by silky, very fine tannins. Perfectly integrated acidity brings an invigorating freshness that carries through to a remarkably long finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red Grand Cru from France pairs wonderfully with roasted meats or dishes rich in umami. It will particularly enhance spiced pigeon, venison haunch, grilled duck breast or a lamb chop flavoured with thyme and rosemary.
Serving and Cellaring
Blessed with exceptional ageing potential, this Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 can be laid down to develop gracefully and enjoyed until around 2042.
Other Characteristics
To preserve its original texture and structure in full, this wine is bottled without any prior filtration or fining.
The Finesse and Pure Expression of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Thibault Liger-Belair
The Estate
Heir to a long family tradition dating back to 1720, Thibault Liger-Belair founded his own estate in 2001 in the heart of Burgundy. Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, the estate spans around eight hectares across the most prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, complemented by plots in Beaujolais. Now at the helm of the estate, Thibault Liger-Belair stands out for his innovative approach and deep respect for the environment. He favours regenerative and biodynamic viticulture, seeking to express the purity and minerality of each terroir through wines of great elegance.
The Vineyard
This Charmes-Chambertin comes from the "Aux Charmes" lieu-dit, located in the southern part of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. Facing east to take full advantage of optimal sunshine, the vines thrive on a heterogeneous and complex terroir. The soils consist of a mixture of marl, clay, red silt and limestone debris resting on a rocky substrate. The estate cultivates this vineyard according to biodynamic principles, favouring mechanical soil work and horse ploughing to preserve microbial life and soil fertility.
The Vintage
The year 2022 stood out for its exceptional continental climate, marked by periods of remarkable heat and drought conditions. Despite these high temperatures, the growing cycle preserved a genuine freshness within the berries, resulting in grapes of optimal quality.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for this 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru are harvested by hand, followed by a rigorous double sorting. To preserve the integrity of the berries, transfers are carried out by gravity within an eco-friendly winery powered by solar and geothermal energy. Fermentation takes place in small open vats with indigenous yeasts, over a period of two to three weeks. Ageing lasts from 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood never exceeding 50%. The barrels are made from wood seasoned for three years to ensure delicate tannins.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir.
