Characteristics and tasting notes for Gevrey-Chambertin Village "En Créot" 2022 Thibault Liger-Belair
Tasting notes
Colour
Red in colour, the wine reveals a ruby hue of moderate intensity, entirely characteristic of its appellation.
Nose
The bouquet opens with lovely aromatic freshness dominated by red fruits, particularly wild strawberry, cherry and morello cherry. With aeration, subtle earthy notes and light smoky touches enrich this fragrant palette.
Palate
Supported by firm yet remarkably fine tannins, the palate offers a silky texture and remarkable purity. The whole shines with elegance and freshness, extending into a persistent, harmonious finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with feathered game such as duck or pheasant, as well as roasted or braised red meats. It also goes very well with lamb in sauce, pork with mushrooms, or characterful cheeses such as Époisses, aged Comté and Beaufort.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "En Créot" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C, letting it breathe for fifteen to thirty minutes beforehand. It can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2032.
The elegance and purity of a Gevrey-Chambertin wine
The estate
Founded in 2001 by Thibault Liger-Belair, the current owner, the eponymous estate is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the heart of Burgundy. Heir to a long family tradition, Thibault Liger-Belair today oversees a vineyard of around seven to eight hectares in the Côte de Nuits, complemented by plots in Beaujolais. Certified organic since 2005, the estate stands out for its respectful approach to living systems, applying biodynamic principles and a philosophy of minimal intervention to allow each terroir to express itself fully.
The vineyard
The "En Créot" cuvée comes from a plot of around 1.4 hectares located in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. Planted around 1956, these old vines thrive on shallow soils made up of clay resting on a limestone base and scattered with scree. This particular geology limits the vine's vigour and encourages berry concentration.
The vintage
2022 stood out for a particularly abundant harvest with optimal ripeness. Weather conditions allowed for a perfect balance between phenolic ripeness and lovely acidity. Nature's generosity indeed required additional harvesting teams in order to pick the berries at the precise moment of ideal freshness, thereby avoiding any overripeness.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Gevrey-Chambertin Village "En Créot" 2022 undergo a rigorous double sorting before being fully destemmed. After a cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation takes place gently over three weeks. The wine is then aged for fourteen to eighteen months in custom-made oak barrels crafted from wood dried for three years, with the proportion of new oak never exceeding half. The wine rests on its lees without racking, before being bottled without fining or filtration.
