Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Long Poil" 2025 by Verget
Tasting notes
Appearance
This white wine reveals a bright, pale golden-yellow hue, adorned with subtle greenish highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a noble, spicy reduction, revealing a distinctive touch of gunpowder. It also offers beautiful aromatic complexity, blending mineral notes with white fruit and citrus aromas.
Palate
Ample and remarkably dense, the palate displays a perfect balance between richness and tension. The concentrated texture is supported by a chalky minerality that stretches into a saline, persistent finish.
Food and wine pairings
Ideal with noble fish, grilled or roasted and served with a beurre blanc sauce, this wine also pairs wonderfully with shellfish, white meats in a cream and mushroom sauce, or even hard cooked-pressed cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and cellaring
To allow its full complexity to express itself, we recommend airing this Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Long Poil" 2025 before tasting and serving it at a temperature of around 11 to 13°C. Offered en primeur, this wine with its fine structure is built to evolve favourably in the cellar for several years.
The Expression of a Great Burgundy Terroir by Maison Verget
The estate
Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen, Maison Verget is based in Sologny, in Burgundy. Conceived as a true laboratory of terroirs, this négociant house is distinguished by its exclusive purchase of grapes on the vine, which are then vinified in a single cellar. Today, governance is overseen by JMG Holding as president, while Julien Desplans has served as managing director since 2023. He manages sourcing and winemaking, while deciding on the blends and ageing in close collaboration with the historic founder.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from a plot located in the commune of Vergisson, within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. This exceptional terroir sits just above the renowned premiers crus "Les Vignes Blanches" and "Le Clos". The vines enjoy a full southern exposure, ideal for ripening, balanced by a high altitude that preserves the freshness of the berries. The highly calcareous soils, combined with particularly low yields, promote optimal concentration in the grapes.
Vinification and ageing
True to the house philosophy, the production of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Long Poil" 2025 begins with entirely manual harvesting carried out by the estate's teams, at optimal ripeness. Fermentations start spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine then benefits from a long ageing on the lees, thereby limiting interventions, with filtration carried out only if strictly necessary.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay
