A Chilean Chardonnay imbued with minerality and tension
The estate
Founded in 2002 by Guillermo Luksic, Viña Tabalí stretches over 151 hectares in the Limarí Valley, in the Coquimbo region of northern Chile. The first modern estate in this coastal valley, it is today managed by Nicolas Luksic, the founder's son. The estate cultivates three vineyards with distinct geological profiles: Talinay, 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, sits on a marine limestone soil unique in Chile, while Río Hurtado peaks at 1,600 meters of altitude on volcanic soils. This exceptional combination of maritime influences, extreme altitude, and rare terroirs gives Tabalí wines remarkable minerality and distinctive freshness.
The vineyard
The Talinay vineyard is located in the Limarí Valley, in the immediate vicinity of the Fray Jorge National Park, classified as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The Caliza plot, covering 0.7 hectares, is located just 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean and at an altitude of 150 meters. Planted in 2006, it rests on limestone slopes made up of an ancient marine terrace. These soils, composed of fractured and porous limestone with a high calcium carbonate content, act as a natural water regulator. The climate is characterized by a constant sea breeze that makes this site the coolest in Limarí, with maximum summer temperatures not exceeding 23.5°C. This oceanic influence delays the ripening of the grapes by 2 to 3 weeks compared to other Chilean coastal zones.
Winemaking and aging
Following manual harvesting, the Talinay Caliza Chardonnay 2022 underwent fermentation in French oak barrels from Fontainebleau, Jupille, and the Vosges. The aging of this Coquimbo wine continued for 10 months in these same French barrels.
Grape variety
This Chilean white wine is 100% Chardonnay.
