An exceptional Chardonnay from Chile with a unique mineral character
The estate
Viña Tabali was founded in 2002 by Guillermo Luksic in the Limarí Valley, within the Coquimbo region, becoming the first modern winery established in this northern area of Chile. Under the current leadership of Nicolas Luksic, the estate spans 151 hectares spread across three vineyards with distinct terroirs: Talinay, a coastal plot located 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean on limestone soils of marine origin that are exceptional in Chile, and Río Hurtado, perched at an altitude of 1,600 meters on volcanic substrate. This complementarity between maritime freshness and altitude confers remarkable minerality, vibrancy and finesse to the cuvées, enhanced by a low-intervention approach in the cellar.
The vineyard
The Talinay vineyard is located on the cool coast of northern Chile, in the immediate vicinity of the Fray Jorge National Park, classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Located at an altitude of 150 meters and only 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, it benefits from a constant sea breeze that makes it the coolest site in the Limari Valley, with a maximum summer temperature of 23.5°C. The vines take root on limestone slopes composed of calcareous soils rich in limestone rocks, remnants of an ancient marine terrace. This very porous and fractured limestone acts as a natural water regulator and source of calcium carbonate, giving this Coquimbo wine its distinctive minerality.
Winemaking and aging
The Talinay Chardonnay 2022 was produced using a method respectful of the fruit. Harvested manually, the whole bunches were pressed in order to limit the extraction of phenolic compounds and preserve the pH as well as the acidity. After an 18-hour cold settling intended to eliminate heavy lees, fermentation took place in French oak barrels from the Fontainebleau, Jupille and Vosges forests. Aging continued for 10 months in these same French oak barrels.
Grape variety
This Chilean wine is 100% Chardonnay.
