Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 Vincent Girardin

Tasting

Colour
This white wine reveals a bright pale yellow colour, highlighted by a lovely brilliance.

Nose
Rich and highly sophisticated, the aromatic bouquet blends indulgent notes of toasted almond and hazelnut with floral and vegetal touches (hawthorn, elderflower, fern, linden, verbena). The whole is enhanced by nuances of butter, honey, citrus and a flinty minerality.

Palate
The palate offers a remarkable balance between a rich, creamy texture and lovely freshness. It reveals delicious notes of delicate hazelnut, extending into a long finish marked by a crystalline minerality.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with foie gras, delicate fish such as sea bream, shellfish, as well as poultry and white meats. It also makes an ideal accompaniment to earthy dishes, such as a wild mushroom risotto, white truffle pasta or creamy preparations with mild cheeses.

Service and Storage

With its long, balanced structure, this Meursault Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 cuvée has significant ageing potential, allowing it to develop organic complexity over the years.

The Authentic and Mineral Expression of a Great Meursault Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin from two hectares of vines, the Vincent Girardin house is an essential reference in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, the estate quickly distinguished itself through its pioneering approach, adopting biodynamic principles as early as 1997 to best express the purity of its terroirs. Since 2012, the estate has belonged to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, now chaired by Jean-Pierre Nié. Continuity and technical excellence remain ensured by Eric Germain, managing director and winemaker, who upholds the house's philosophy of authenticity.

The Vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from several plots located at the heart of the Meursault appellation (Sous la Velle, Corbin, Dressolles, Clos du Cromin and Vireuils). Around fifty years old, these old vines thrive on a dual geological typicity made up of Callovian limestone rock and Argovian marl. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, including deep ploughing, high trellising and the use of organic compost, in order to encourage biodiversity and the natural expression of the characteristic Burgundian terroir of Burgundy.

The Vintage

2023 offered ideal climatic conditions for white grape varieties. Following a favourable spring, the summer stood out for its intense daytime heat balanced by cool nights, ensuring optimal ripening. Moderate rainfall and an early harvest, which began on the first of September, made it possible to obtain grapes of exceptional quality, combining elegance, complexity and natural vibrancy.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for this Meursault Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 are harvested entirely by hand, followed by rigorous sorting. In the cellar, slow pneumatic pressing gently extracts the first-press juice. Ageing takes place over fifteen months on fine lees, without any lees stirring, in order to preserve aromatic integrity and mineral freshness. One month before bottling, the wines are blended in stainless steel tanks, then undergo light fining and gentle filtration.
