Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Lieu-dit "Les Chassis" 2024 Yves Cuilleron
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep, richly intense red hue.
Nose
Powerful and beautifully complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with dominant notes of spice and liquorice. It also reveals subtle black fruit aromas such as blackcurrant and blackberry, enhanced by floral touches of violet and delicately smoky nuances.
Palate
The palate offers a round, generous texture, underpinned by remarkable power. The tannins are both spicy and subtle, without any harshness. The whole is elevated by a lovely freshness that carries the wine through to a long, elegant finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with full-flavoured meats such as spit-roasted suckling pig, grilled rib steak or braised lamb shank. It also goes perfectly with quality charcuterie boards or traditional cheeses such as Saint-Nectaire or a tomme.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment, the Lieu-dit "Les Chassis" 2024 should be served at a temperature of between 16 and 17°C, with a brief decanting recommended in its youth to soften the tannins. This wine will reveal its full potential after a few years of patience and can be cellared until around 2034.
The authentic expression of a great Rhône Valley wine
The estate
Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron, the winery is based in Chavanay, at the heart of the northern Rhône Valley. Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has been the sole owner and director of this family-run French estate. Under his leadership, the property has undergone spectacular growth, expanding from a modest area to around a hundred hectares spread across several prestigious appellations. A firm advocate of sustainable, tailored viticulture, the winemaker favours an artisanal approach, working without a consulting oenologist, in order to produce wines that faithfully reflect the identity of their terroirs.
The vineyard
Hailing from the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, this cuvée comes from a selection of plots located south of Tain-l'Hermitage. The specific terroir of this alluvial plain is made up exclusively of quaternary stony alluvium. The soils are rich in rolled pebbles, which have the distinctive property of storing the sun's heat during the day and releasing it to the vines at night. The estate applies environmentally friendly methods, with entirely manual harvesting and rigorous yield control thanks to a high planting density.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Lieu-dit "Les Chassis" 2024 relies on traditional, minimally interventionist methods. Fermentation is triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts, accompanied by manual punching down and pumping over. The wine is then aged in wooden barrels, having previously held between one and four wines, for around 18 months, allowing the structure of the cuvée to develop while preserving the vibrancy of the fruit.
