Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Clos Sorbè" 2024 from Domaine des Lambrays

Tasting

Colour
The wine displays a beautiful ruby-red hue with purple highlights.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals intense aromas of red and black fruit such as raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. Delicate floral notes of violet intertwine with spicy touches and a subtle, iron-tinged minerality.

Palate
The palate offers a velvety texture supported by an elegant structure with fine, chalky tannins. Lovely mineral tension accompanies the fruity flavours through to a long, savoury finish marked by hints of undergrowth.

Food and wine pairing

This great red wine pairs beautifully with grilled red meat, game birds or fine poultry in sauce. It will also elevate dishes featuring wild mushrooms, as well as characterful soft cheeses.

Serving and ageing

For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served between 15 and 17°C, taking care to open it a few hours in advance or to decant it in its youth. Built for ageing, this Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Clos Sorbè" 2024 can be cellared until around 2036.

The singular expression of a great Burgundy terroir by Domaine des Lambrays

The estate

Founded in 1868 following the reunification of its famous historic clos, Domaine des Lambrays is a true institution in Burgundy. Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the property covers approximately eleven hectares. Acquired in 2014 by the LVMH group and now run by Jacques Devauges, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, with certified organic farming. The combination of an exceptional heritage and modern facilities, such as its gravity-flow winery, enables its wines to rise to the pinnacle of regional excellence.

The vineyard

This cuvée comes from the Clos Sorbè premier cru climat, of which the estate farms just over one hectare. Nestled in the heart of the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, these vines, around fifty years old, flourish on a gentle east-facing slope. The terroir is characterised by a limestone bedrock covered with red clay-limestone soils, providing ideal natural drainage and giving the wine its unique mineral signature. The entire vineyard is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand in order to preserve the integrity of the berries. In the new winery, which operates entirely by gravity, the vinification of the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Clos Sorbè" 2024 includes a significant proportion of whole bunches. Fermentations take place in wooden vats, driven exclusively by indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine undergoes careful, extended ageing in oak barrels for sixteen to eighteen months, lending it complexity and refinement.
