Bruce Sanderson

This luscious red evokes cherry, raspberry, floral, iron, vanilla and toasty oak aromas and flavors on an open frame. This is harmonious and silky, with finely meshed tannins and lively acidity for support. Shows complexity and a long aftertaste. Best from 2028 through 2045. 250 cases made, 40 cases imported.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Burgundy Grand Cru

The Estate

Officially founded in 1797, the House of Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy, France. Based in Aloxe-Corton, it now owns the largest grand cru estate in the region. Currently headed by Florent Latour, the estate stands out for its pioneering commitment to sustainable viticulture and for owning its own cooperage. Combining respect for family tradition with a spirit of innovation, the estate crafts wines that precisely express the richness of their terroirs.

The Vineyard

The Les Quatre Journaux plot spans 0.8 hectares within the prestigious Romanée-Saint-Vivant appellation. Ideally exposed to the southwest, the vines, averaging around thirty years old, thrive on iron-rich clay soils. This distinctive terroir gives the grapes a distinctive minerality and complexity.

Winemaking and Aging

The Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Les Quatre Journaux" 2023 is crafted using rigorous traditional methods. After hand-harvesting, fermentation takes place in open vats with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by manual punching down. Skin contact is deliberately limited to preserve the delicacy of the fruit. Following complete malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 10 to 12 months. This aging takes place entirely in new French oak barrels with a medium toast, crafted by the estate's own cooperage.
