Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for La Mordorée 2025 by M. Chapoutier

Tasting

Appearance
Beautifully intense, the wine displays a deep purple color with bright carmine highlights.

Nose
Expressive and alluring, the nose reveals aromas of ripe black fruits intertwined with notes of bramble leaf and black olive, enhanced by a floral touch reminiscent of orange blossom and blueberry.

Palate
The attack is silky, giving way to a full-bodied and elegantly structured palate supported by fine tannins. Nuances of sweet spices, cornflower, and a subtle hint of cured meat enrich the whole, leading to a savory and persistent finish.

A full-bodied and delicately spiced red wine from the Rhône Valley

The estate

Established in 1808 in Tain-L’Hermitage, the House of M. Chapoutier today represents excellence among the greatest names of Rhône Valley wines.

Both winemaker and négociant, Michel Chapoutier has, over the vintages, elevated this family business to the highest level. The wines of Maison Chapoutier are praised for their finesse and remarkable quality by discerning enthusiasts around the world. A man of many talents, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for perfect scores (100/100) awarded by American critic Robert Parker. His daughter, Mathilde Chapoutier, has taken over this iconic estate, overseeing a vineyard of more than 350 hectares spread across the most prestigious appellations of the Northern and Southern Rhône Valley.

The vineyard

La Mordorée by M. Chapoutier is a Côte-Rôtie wine made from old Syrah vines. Located on the edge of the Côte Blonde, this plot rests on soils composed of mica schist rich in chlorite and iron. The vineyard is managed according to biodynamic principles and is certified organic.

The vintage

A vintage beginning with a rather mild and very rainy winter, building good water reserves, followed by a prolonged cold period delaying bud break and reducing the risk of frost. Spring, alternating between rain and sunshine, led to strong vegetative growth and increased vine pressure, with early flowering but few clusters. Summer was marked by two heatwaves and a hail episode in Crozes-Hermitage, causing some losses. The harvest, early from mid-August, was spread out thanks to late-August rains that refined ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

Harvested at perfect maturity, the grapes are vinified in concrete vats, with daily pump-overs promoting optimal extraction of color and tannins. Only the free-run juice is retained, ensuring purity and concentration. Aging, lasting 14 to 18 months, is carried out in 225-liter barrels.

Grape variety

Syrah (100%).
