Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Louis Roederer Collection 247
Tasting
Nose
Intense and generous, the nose reveals aromas of sun-ripened yellow fruit such as mirabelle plum, alongside orchard-fruit notes like Williams pear, brought by the Meunier and Pinot Noir. Chardonnay, for its part, expresses fragrances of pollen, delicate white flowers and vanilla. With aeration, the bouquet evolves toward notes of cocoa-like spice, toastiness and baked apples.
Palate
The palate is fleshy and fresh, offering a creamy, full-bodied texture carried by juicy fruit. The overall impression is indulgent, lifted by a subtle tannic, slightly bitter edge that brings energy. The finish lingers with focus, revealing a suave, chalky, saline and mouthwatering texture.
Food and wine pairings
This Champagne pairs perfectly with refined aperitifs, delicate fish and shellfish, highlighting its aromatic balance and versatility.
Serving and cellaring
Collection 247 is best enjoyed between 8 and 10°C to fully reveal its aromatic complexity.
A precise and generous Champagne by Louis Roederer
The estate
Founded in 1776 in Reims under the name Dubois Père & Fils, the house took the name Louis Roederer in 1833. Owned by the Rouzaud family since 1975, it is now run by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation. The vineyard covers 245 hectares located exclusively in the Grands and Premiers Crus of Champagne. Louis Roederer stands out for its unique model of fully integrated vertical production and is Champagne’s largest organic winegrowing estate, with 135 certified hectares.
The vineyard
Collection 247 is made from grapes sourced from three complementary terroirs of Champagne: one third from “La Rivière,” one third from “La Montagne” and one third from “La Côte.” The grapes come from the estate’s own vines, complemented by a rigorous selection from “Cœur de Terroir” partner growers.
The blend
Collection 247 represents the House’s 247th blend. The cuvée is composed of 68% wines from the 2022 harvest, complemented by 27% wines from the perpetual reserve spanning vintages 2012 to 2021, and 5% oak-aged reserve wines from the 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 vintages. The 2022 vintage, harvested between August 29 and September 13, is marked by a continental influence—sunny, dry and generous—contrasting with the oceanic 2021 vintage.
Winemaking and aging
This Collection 247 benefits from a winemaking approach in which 23% of the wines are aged in oak. Malolactic fermentation is carried out on 23% of the blend, helping preserve freshness while adding roundness. This approach gives the Champagne its characteristic complexity and balance. This Champagne has a dosage of 7 g/L, giving it lovely freshness while preserving its indulgent character.
