Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2024 by Jean Chartron
Tasting notes
Appearance
Displaying a pale gold hue, this wine is enhanced by delicate green highlights typical of its youth.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a lovely freshness, blending aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit. Subtle notes of green almond and orange blossom intertwine with a mineral backbone and light spicy, toasted touches from the ageing process.
Palate
This white wine stands out for its remarkable mineral tension and beautiful intensity. The structure, carried by a refreshing acidity, extends at length to deliver a persistent finish of great precision.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as oysters or scallops. It also brilliantly accompanies white fish served with a lemon sauce, matured cheeses such as Comté, or dishes based on asparagus and mushrooms.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is advisable to serve this wine at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Approachable in its youth, it also has the ageing potential to be cellared until at least 2030.
The mineral purity and elegance of a Saint-Aubin Premier Cru
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard in Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Jean Chartron is a historic figure of Burgundy. Today, the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron, is at the helm of the estate. Overseeing a vineyard of around 14.5 hectares, the duo carries on a family expertise with an environmentally respectful approach. Renowned for its mastery of the Côte de Beaune terroirs, the estate produces authentic wines that faithfully express all the complexity of their origins.
The vineyard
The vineyard from which this Saint-Aubin is sourced reaches the highest point of the appellation, between 300 and 350 metres in altitude. Facing south to south-east, the vines flourish on a plateau of clay-limestone soils. This privileged geographical setting encourages a slow ripening of the berries while preserving remarkable freshness. The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage is characterised by conditions that favoured beautiful tension and great freshness. The growing cycle allowed the berries to develop a fruity and light profile, particularly highlighting the aromatic brightness and mineral definition typical of this year.
Winemaking and ageing
Winemaking begins with fermentation in oak barrels, 25% of which are new. The wine then benefits from ageing on fine lees in barrels for 12 months. Finally, it is refined for a further four months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
