Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Perrières" 2022 Jean Chartron

Tasting

Colour
This white wine from France displays a pale, crystalline golden colour, illuminated by delicate golden highlights that can shift towards straw-like hues depending on the angle of light.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals itself as complex and seductive, blending ripe white fruit aromas such as pear and apple with fresh citrus notes like bergamot. Subtle floral touches of acacia and hawthorn intertwine with a minerality evoking flint, all underscored by discreet buttery and vanilla nuances.

Palate
The palate opens with precision and energy, carried by a lovely mouth-watering acidity. It offers a perfect balance between generous fruit concentration and mineral vibrancy. The taut texture stretches into a remarkably long finish, marked by a fine saline, iodine-tinged bitterness.

Food and wine pairing

This cuvée beautifully enhances noble seafood such as scallops, oysters or grilled lobster. It also pairs wonderfully with delicate fish like turbot or sea bass served with a beurre blanc sauce, as well as white meats in creamy mushroom sauces. When it comes to cheese, a fresh goat's cheese or a young brie will bring out its freshness.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Perrières" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at an ideal temperature between 12 and 13°C, after decanting for around thirty minutes. This wine can be enjoyed now, but its potential allows it to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2030.

Other characteristics

This dry white wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%.

The mineral expression of a great white Burgundy

The estate

Founded in 1859 by cooper Jean-Edouard Dupard, the Jean Chartron estate is a true institution located in Puligny-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy. Today, the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron, leads the estate. Overseeing a 14.5-hectare vineyard, the sibling duo carries on a tradition of excellence through environmentally responsible practices. Certified High Environmental Value, the estate is renowned for its mastery of great white wines, authentically and precisely expressing the full richness of Burgundy's terroirs.

The vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from the Perrières terroir, located in the southern part of the classified climat of Frionnes, within the Saint-Aubin appellation. This distinctive terroir is characterised by very stony soils rich in active limestone, where the bedrock breaks through the surface. Cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, the vines benefit from natural grass cover and meticulous soil management, fostering a deep geological expression and pronounced minerality.

The vintage

2022 stood out for its highly favourable weather conditions in the region, offering a fine balance between solar warmth and cooler spells. This mild climate allowed the growing cycle to unfold optimally, resulting in a gradual and harmonious ripening of the berries while preserving a lovely natural freshness.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the Saint-Aubin 1er cru "Perrières" 2022 faithfully follows lunar and astral cycles. Alcoholic fermentation, lasting four to six weeks, takes place in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood ranging from 10 to 30%. It is followed by malolactic fermentation at 17°C, accompanied by light bâtonnage. The wine is then aged in a cool cellar for eight to sixteen months, allowing its structure to refine.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
