Arômes de Pavie 2020

The palate is rich and caressing, with boysenberry, plum and blackberry reduction notes flowing through nicely. Shows a nice tug of graphite underneath. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2032.

Blackcurrant and bramble fruit, perfumed, ripeness and richness, medicinal herbs and blue fruits. Nicely detailed. Punchy and bright, the tannins are clean and a touch tight but this is generous and appealing. Feels serious and it does have that signature, lean, austere and tightly spiced backbone. Sweet, juicy, tight right now, but confident and stylish, good complexity and lovely licks of terroir.

A beautiful red with black berries, black and green olives, and bitter chocolate. It’s full-bodied with polished tannins. Lots of depth and length. Savory at the end. It’s from dedicated plots of Pavie. Half merlot and half cabernet franc. Not just a second wine. Better after 2028.

Deepest ruby, opaque core, purple reflections. Fresh cherries, fine blackberry fruit, a hint of lime zest, a mineral touch. Taut, tight-knit, subtle blueberry and coconut, integrated savory wood, salty, fine nougat and minerality on the finish.

Fleshy and meaty with plenty of dark fruit, fine oak and toast with some smoky notes. Rich and voluminous palate, ripe and unctuous yet with fine underlying freshness, dense, structured and with very good persistence.

The second wine of Château Pavie, the 2020 Aromes De Pavie certainly shows some Grand Vin character in its red and black fruits, tobacco, leafy herbs, and chocolate-driven aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and concentrated, with fine tannins and some obvious minerality on the finish, it's up there with the finest second wines of the vintage. It will keep for two decades.

An exciting gateway in the “Pavie” style. A tandem of Merlot and Cabernet Franc with good concentration, where spicy notes take the lead in the 2020 expression. The flavorful framework will make it appealing from the very first years. A style that’s accessible to a wide audience.

The nose shows remarkable purity and precision. It exudes a meditative calm, with notes of dark fruit, charcoal, and crushed stone. The same purity is found on the palate, brimming with energy, driven by perfectly structured tannins and a lovely, refreshing acidity, all in harmony. A very serious second wine.

The nose is fruity and offers controlled power, some depth, and gourmandise. It reveals notes of pulpy blackberry, vibrant raspberry, and, more subtly, small blue fruits, combined with touches of violet and nutmeg, fine hints of hazelnut, and a discreet hint of tobacco and pepper. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, suavity, a certain finesse, a sense of straightness (well-controlled), lovely sapidity, a touch of indulgence, and a fine creaminess. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy cherry, creamy cassis, and, more subtly, fresh raspberry, combined with touches of violet, nutmeg, zan, as well as discreet hints of toasted hazelnut and a subtle hint of vanilla. The tannins offer a gentle plushness. Good length and persistence. A pleasant suppleness and a slight chew on the finish.
