Decanter

There is a lovely freshness to Bouchard's Meursault Les Clous 2022 that brings a marvellous balance and length to the wine. The initial attack boasts aromas of citrus and apricot, acacia flowers and a saline minerality. There is richness as well, with notes of marzipan as the wine opens up on the palate. The grapes are from a parcel of over eight hectares that average 300 metres elevation, planted in stony marl soils that hold enough water to avoid stress in the summer's heat.

Stuart Pigott

The lemony nose shines like the morning star. Very cool and elegant with no trace of the opulence that's widely considered to be typical for this appellation. Becomes more and more fascinating the further it flows over your palate. Wonderful, crystalline minerality and lime freshness at the very long finish. From 8.6 hectares of vines at 300 meters altitude on a stony, limestone soil, where the grapes have to be picked a week later than those in the warmer sites of this appellation. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Meursault Village "Les Clous" 2022 by Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting

Nose

The nose opens with great freshness, revealing citrus aromas such as lemon and lime, intertwined with notes of white-fleshed fruits like peach and pear. Delicate floral touches of hawthorn and acacia blossom mingle with a saline minerality. Over time, nuances of hazelnut, almond, brioche and vanilla emerge.

Palate

On the palate, this wine offers a silky texture and medium body, supported by a beautiful concentration. The balance is remarkable between the richness typical of the appellation and a crystalline mineral tension. The finish is particularly long, lingering on citrus notes and a very pure mineral thread.

Food and wine pairings

This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood or fish in creamy or beurre blanc sauces, such as langoustines or grilled lobster. It also perfectly accompanies white meats such as veal in cream sauce, as well as fresh goat cheeses or blue-veined cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal enjoyment of the Meursault Village "Les Clous" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, taking it out of the refrigerator about twenty minutes before serving. Decanting for around 30 minutes is recommended. This wine can be enjoyed today, but it has excellent aging potential and will evolve in the cellar until around 2042.

The elegance and mineral purity of a white Burgundy wine

The estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard, the Bouchard Père & Fils House is a historic institution of Burgundy. Initially specialised in the fabric trade, the family turned to wine in the mid-18th century. Today, the estate has been owned by Artémis Domaines (the Pinault and Henriot families) since 2022. At the head of an exceptional 130-hectare vineyard, a large part of which is classified as Premier and Grand Cru, the property stands out for its unique heritage and its transition to organic viticulture, certified in 2025.

The vineyard

The cuvée comes from an 8.6-hectare plot located at approximately 300 metres in altitude within the Meursault appellation. East-facing, these vines benefit from a cooler microclimate than the centre of the village. The terroir consists of limestone and rocky marls with a very shallow layer of soil, forcing the roots to draw deep into the bedrock. This unique configuration, cultivated using organic farming, gives the wine its distinctive minerality and naturally limits yields.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage offered mild climatic conditions. After a slight episode of spring frost in April, the season was marked by dry weather, balanced by crucial rainfall in June. The summer benefited from record sunshine and warm but moderate temperatures. These conditions produced generous and perfectly ripe grapes. The growing cycle concluded with an early harvest, around 20 August, in order to preserve all the natural freshness of the berries.

Winemaking and aging

For the Meursault Village "Les Clous" 2022, the harvest is entirely manual and followed by rigorous sorting. The grapes are destemmed and ferment as whole berries. Aging takes place over an 18-month period in French oak barrels, with a proportion of 20% new wood to bring subtle complexity. Partial malolactic fermentation is carried out in order to soften the wine while preserving its tension and vivacity.
