An elegant, mineral Volnay Premier Cru from the prestigious climat Taillepieds
The estate
Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, a cloth merchant established in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and most prestigious houses in Burgundy. The estate now spans 130 hectares across more than 100 classified plots, including an exceptional proportion of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus on the Côte d'Or. Owned by Artémis Domaines since 2022, the House holds emblematic monopoles and has been committed to organic farming since 2025.
The vineyard
The climat Taillepieds lies to the south of the village of Volnay, on a 7.17-hectare parcel. Its name evokes the small, sharp stones scattered throughout the soil. The terroir is made up of light brown clay and limestone, with a south-east exposure that lends freshness and elegance to the wines. This location helps preserve natural acidity and express distinctive mineral notes.
The vintage
The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was marked by contrasting weather conditions. A hot, dry summer, with drought from July to September, was balanced by timely rainfall on September 1st, restoring the equilibrium between alcohol potential and acidity. Phenolic ripeness proved exceptional, with remarkable phenol levels. The harvest took place in good conditions, producing grapes of outstanding quality.
Winemaking and aging
Volnay 1er cru "Taillepieds" Domaine 2017 benefited from meticulous winemaking that respects the expression of the terroir. Aging helped preserve the finesse and elegance characteristic of this prestigious climat.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
