Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for La Côte aux Enfants 2019 from Bollinger

Tasting

Color
This Coteaux Champenois rouge reveals a magnificent garnet hue that reflects its rich concentration.

Nose
The bouquet displays remarkable intensity with aromas of dark fruits evoking Morello cherries and blackberries. These fruity notes are accompanied by hints of licorice and gentle spices reminiscent of vanilla.

Palate
The attack unveils nuances of violet and bergamot that harmoniously complement flavors of candied dark fruits. The wine then evolves towards more complex notes of pepper, truffle and undergrowth. The structure is full-bodied with exceptionally supple tannins.

Food and wine pairing

This exceptional red wine pairs perfectly with a veal noisette accompanied by Coteaux Champenois rouge, tournedos with confit shallots in red wine sauce, or poultry and duck.

Service and aging

La Côte aux Enfants 2019 is ideally served at 16°C to reveal all its aromatic complexity. This connoisseur's wine has exceptional aging potential, allowing it to develop beautifully until around 2035.

An exceptional Coteaux Champenois rouge from Bollinger's prestigious terroir in Aÿ

The estate

Founded in 1829 by Jacques Joseph Bollinger, the Comte de Villermont and Paul Renaudin, this Champagne House remains one of the last independent family estates in the region. Located in Aÿ in the Marne valley, Bollinger is now led by Charles-Armand de Belenet under the ownership of the Bizot family. The House is distinguished by its traditional methods, notably aging in oak barrels and malolactic fermentation. Its vineyard includes prestigious plots such as "La Côte aux Enfants" as a monopole, demonstrating its excellence in crafting exceptional champagnes.

The vineyard

The lieu-dit "La Côte aux Enfants" is a 4-hectare monopole exclusively owned by Bollinger, of which 2 hectares are dedicated to producing Coteaux Champenois. This steep plot on the outskirts of Aÿ was patiently reassembled by Jacques Bollinger at the beginning of the 20th century, after having been previously divided among more than 50 owners. The vineyard has been managed organically since 2009.

Vinification and aging

The vinification of La Côte aux Enfants 2019 follows traditional Burgundian methods with one-third of the grapes vinified as whole clusters. A slow, progressive cold maceration precedes fermentation, followed by aging in small oak barrels that give the wine its complexity and aromatic depth.

Grape variety

This red wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety that finds in this Aÿ terroir a rare expression of intensity.
