The current release on the market, which I reviewed last year, is the NV Champagne Cuvee 748 Extra Brut, with a 2020 base, comprising 60% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, and the remainder Meunier. Every year they decrease the Meunier and increase the Pinot Noir. Disgorged in July 2024, with a 2 gram per liter dosage, it’s a rich straw color and is medium to full-bodied, with a good deal of intensity and savory character. I love that they capture a balance of savory and delicate vinosity, but the fruitiness shines in this 700 range cuvée. Even though the spirit of Chardonnay still shines in it, the black fruits of the Pinot Noir also shone brightly at this tasting. It has a bold but elegant feel, with a pillowy mousse and salinity. Drink 2025-2040.

Description

The finesse and balance of a champagne signed by Jacquesson

The estate

Located in Dizy in the Vallée de la Marne, the Champagne Jacquesson House, founded in 1798, was taken over by the Chiquet family in 1974. Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet, two passionate brothers, produce exceptional cuvées that express the unique character and richness of these outstanding 28 hectares of chalky terroirs, thanks to their plot-by-plot approach and unique winemaking and aging philosophy.

With its numbered cuvées renowned for their finesse, airy purity, and remarkable aging potential, Jacquesson is part of the elite among the great names of Champagne.

The wine

Cuvée 748 is crafted from Champagne vineyards in Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers, Champillon (55%), Avize, and Oiry (45%). The base year is 2020.

The vintage

A mild and rainy winter preceded a sunny, dry spring. The June storms gave way to particularly dry weather until the end of September.

Blend

Jacquesson's Cuvée 748 is the result of a blend predominantly marked by Chardonnay, complemented by the addition of 24% reserve wines from Cuvées No. 747 to 743 and Cuvée No. 741.
