An elegant and generous Saint-Émilion by Château Moulin Saint-Georges
The estate
Located at the southern entrance to the medieval village, Château Moulin Saint-Georges is an estate in the Bordeaux region, facing the famous Château Ausone. The estate's modern era dates back to 1921, when it was acquired by the Vauthier family. This cru stands out for its long-standing family expertise, producing wines renowned for their great elegance.
The vineyard
The 7-hectare vineyard stretches across west- and northwest-facing slopes, a cooler terroir shaped by the Fongaban stream. The vines, with an average age of 37 years, thrive on the clay-limestone soils typical of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Planting density ranges from 5,000 to 12,600 vines per hectare depending on the plot. Committed to an environmentally friendly approach, the estate is currently converting to organic farming.
The vintage
This year's weather was marked by two heatwaves. However, the particular exposure of the slopes helped preserve lovely freshness and optimal acidity in the berries. The Merlot was harvested by hand on 11 and 12 September, followed by the Cabernet Franc on 17 and 18 September.
Winemaking and ageing
Following hand harvesting and meticulous density sorting, plot-by-plot vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Extraction is carried out gently by rack-and-return, with maceration lasting around one month. The wine is then carefully aged for 18 months in new barrels.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.
