Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2022 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant white hue, luminous and clear.

Nose
The nose reveals great complexity, exhaling aromas of pear, lemon zest and white flowers, intertwined with notes of musky apricot. Subtle touches of red berries, spring flowers, sweet herbs and golden toasted bread complete this bouquet.

Palate
On the palate, this medium-bodied wine offers a pure and delicately silky texture. It unfolds flavours of citrus and golden fruit of remarkable complexity, carried by a lovely acidity and a powerful chalky mineral energy.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with delicate dishes such as lobster, crayfish in Nantua sauce, or fine fish. It also perfectly accompanies delicate seafood, white truffles, top-quality caviar as well as aged cheeses such as vieux comté.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate the complexity of this Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. With an exceptional structure, this wine boasts remarkable aging potential and can be enjoyed until at least 2052.

The pure and mineral expression of a great Burgundy grand cru

The estate

Located in France, at the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé was officially established under this name in 1925, although its winemaking heritage dates back to 1450. This vineyard of approximately 12.5 hectares is a true family institution. Today, the estate is run by the count's granddaughters, Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette. Renowned worldwide for its respect for terroir and its limited production, the estate stands out for its invaluable heritage and its absolute pursuit of excellence.

The vineyard

The plot dedicated to this wine covers just 0.66 hectares at the top of the Musigny grand cru slope. The vines, around thirty years old, thrive at an altitude ranging between 260 and 300 metres. The terroir rests on a rocky limestone terrace of Jurassic origin, with a steep slope and the presence of red clay. The estate favours sustainable practices, using horse ploughing and encouraging the planting of beneficial grasses to preserve the natural vitality of the soils.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by particularly hot and dry weather conditions, setting records for heat and sunshine. Despite this extreme climate and a lack of rainfall, the absence of major water stress and aggressive heat spikes allowed the growing cycle to unfold serenely. Harvesting began early, from 29 August, thus ensuring a healthy crop and preserving all the freshness of the berries.

Winemaking and aging

For the making of this Musigny Grand Cru Blanc 2022, the grapes were harvested in small 20-kilogram crates to preserve their integrity. A gentle lift system replaced mechanical pumps to transfer the fruit, ensuring very pure aromatic definition. The berries were pressed shortly after harvest. Malolactic fermentation was completed in autumn, allowing for early bottling as of November to capture all the brightness of the fruit.
