Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

This has a full and enticing feel, with a shortbread note leading off, followed by lemon curd, peach, tangerine, salted butter and yellow apple flavors. Light verbena and heather hints show up through the alluring finish. This has outstanding range and a really gorgeous mouthfeel, and should age wonderfully. Drink now through 2024. 1,667 cases made.

Decanter

Tasted from magnum at 10 years old, this is drinking beautifully now but still with an easy decade of evolution ahead. It has remarkable concentration and opulence while maintaining a vivid seam of freshness. Focused, flinty aromas join juicy guava, passionfruit and peach blossom. The silky, seamless palate shows beautifully integrated oak, quenching acidity and lingering flavours of mandarin peel, roasted lemon and exotic tropical fruits. Precise, crisp and fresh – a real charmer from this warm vintage.

Instantly impressive nose with pristine lemons and limes as well as subtly flinty, reductive notes. The palate has power and direction, not to mention impressive yeast lees influence and perfectly integrated oak. Power, impressive tension and length. Drink this young or with some considerable age. It will deliver at both ends.

Rich, opulent, luscious, and intense, the wine remains on the primary side. Concentrated, ripe, sweet, and packed with layers of fresh yellow citrus, orange rind, crushed rocks, and flowers, give it at least another 5 years to develop additional nuances.

Light yellow-green, silver reflections, somewhat restrained, smoky-herbal savoury notes, delicate hazelnut, candied orange zest. Medium body, delicate fruit sweetness, white apple, discreet acid structure, a hint of caramel, still seems underdeveloped.

The 2015 Chevalier Blanc is as brilliant now as it was on release yet still needs 4–5 years of bottle age to show at its best. Crushed lime, lemon zest, crushed rocks, and beautiful white grapefruit notes all emerge from this racy, beautifully concentrated, focused white that checks in with the crème de la crème of the vintage.

(70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sémillon, 40 hl/ha) Closed, fine, elegant bouquet with white peach, lime cream, and mint. Powerful, dense, full, fruity palate with firm, fine, fresh, very well-integrated acidity, diverse aromatics, and a long, full finish. Has room to improve. 18/20 2024 - 2040

Pale gold in colour at 10 years, just beginning to deepen but still showing clarity and verve. Shows a deft mix of preserved lemon, saffron, wax, citrus peel, quince and lime zest. Still going strong, as is typical for the superb white wine from Domaine de Chevalier.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2015 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc gives up pronounced notes of lemonade, fresh apricots, and lime leaves with suggestions of straw and crushed stones. The medium-bodied palate is generously fruited, with an approachably soft backbone of acidity and a minerally lift on the finish.

The expression of fruit and the wine’s richness take precedence over freshness, and the balance is less driven by acidity. The late harvest, lasting until the end of September, produced golden grapes that deliver more exotic, alluring aromas.

Le Figaro Vin

A Chevalier with beautiful maturity, offering dense, generous, and well-balanced substance, led by green apple and the citrus notes of sauvignon harvested at perfect ripeness. As always, sémillon is more discreet at this stage. Of great elegance, the wine is set for a brilliant future, but there’s no need to rush to open it. This kind of vintage will only truly reach its peak in about ten years. If the great white burgundies were crafted with this level of technical mastery, they would dominate the world of whites, just as Domaine de Chevalier has done for many years.

Light yellow with green highlights. An intense, complex bouquet ideally combining élevage, fruit and spices. I pick up a hint of hazelnut, peppermint and notes of lemon. A succulent, dense attack. On the palate, the pleasant olfactory impressions are perfectly reflected and lend beautiful aromatic intensity to the mouth. The structure is fresh and supports the fruit perfectly through to the finish. A characterful wine with a persistent finish. A great success, worthy of following over time.

Light yellow color. Very aromatic nose, delicate, fruity, pure, and complex. Slightly stewed note upon swirling. Rich on the attack, full mid-palate, smooth and flavorful, the wine unfolds with shades of exotic fruit and, more unexpectedly, some more bitter notes. These latter make the wine a bit austere on the finish.

Spice and ripe fruit aromas lead into a wine that has both richness and a crisp, fruity herbal character. Acidity shines through, giving the wine a tangy, mineral edginess. It will be a delicious fruity wine. Drink from 2023.

Vinous

Antonio Galloni

The 2015 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is every bit as captivating from bottle as it was from barrel. Time seems to have given the 2015 more depth and freshness, which is obviously a very good thing. A host of lemon peel, crushed rock, green pear, mint and dried apricot notes develop in the glass, but as is so often the case here, it is the wine's textural brilliance and persistence that place it among the world's great wines. The 2015 is simply magnificent.

Description

The 2015 Domaine du Chevalier dry white expresses Semillon and Cabernet-Sauvignon characters without the former vintages classic citrus fruit aromas (grapefruit, lemon). In fact, white and yellow fruits go together in this fine Pessac-Leognan. This aromatic family is one of the fundamental characteristics of this white vintage. This Domaine de Chevalier 2015 displays a golden yellow hue with a green-golden reflection. The crystal-clear aspect of this colour foreshadows a good acidity, which means an obvious freshness. At the olfactory attack, the nose confirms this tension due to acidity and freshness, not to say the fruits aromatic vibrancy. Delicious notes of pear, nectarine, and wild peach seduce already. This wine is elegant, deep, complex, straight and nervous. On swirling, yellow rose petal notes are added to the aromatic spectrum. On the palate, the attack is dynamic. Acidity adds to this Cru Classé from Graves, while bringing power and balance. The mid-palate is full-bodied on yellow fleshed fruits and verbena tea accents in the retro-olfaction, in absolute freshness. Nervousness, which is often a specific of the Chevalier great vintages, is never too far. It is a very savoury wine. Even though it has surprisingly well opened up at this stage, it is far from revealing the entirety of its richness. What a precise wine!
