Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Corton Grand Cru "Vergennes" 2022
Tasting
Colour
Displaying beautiful clarity, this white wine reveals a brilliant pale yellow hue with golden highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is rich and complex. It opens with aromas of stone fruit such as peach, pear and exotic fruits like mango. These are interwoven with subtle mineral notes of flint, harmoniously rounded out by touches of vanilla, hazelnut and butter from ageing in oak.
Palate
The attack is powerful, revealing a full-bodied and concentrated character. The mid-palate charms with its perfect balance between fruit richness and a lovely freshness, underpinned by a pronounced minerality with saline and iodine accents. The finish, remarkably long, lingers on persistent spicy and mineral notes.
Food and wine pairing
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, particularly oysters, as well as shellfish such as grilled langoustine or lobster. It also enhances foie gras, fish in creamy sauces such as sole meunière, or a board of matured cheeses including Comté, Gruyère, Époisses or goat's cheeses.

To fully appreciate this Corton Grand Cru "Vergennes" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C.

The elegance and minerality of a great white wine from the Corton Grand Cru appellation
The estate
Although its historical origins date back to the 11th century, the Domaine du Château de Meursault truly took on its current form when it was restored in 1973. Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, this illustrious estate spans 65 hectares of vines divided across more than 110 plots. Now run by Olivier Halley, who acquired the estate in 2012, the vineyard stands out for its strong environmental commitment, illustrated by its conversion to certified organic farming as of the 2022 vintage.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Vergennes climat, located on the eastern slope of the famous Corton hill. This small 0.182-hectare plot benefits from an ideal east and south-east exposure, protecting the vines from the excessive heat of the afternoon. The vines flourish midway up the slope on soils composed of Jurassic limestone gravel and scree, giving the wine its distinctive mineral signature.
The vintage
The year 2022 was characterised by extreme weather conditions, marked by intense heat, excessive sunshine and pronounced drought. However, saving rainfall in August allowed the grapes to continue ripening in a balanced way. The early harvest thus revealed grapes of exceptional quality, combining perfect ripeness with great freshness.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes destined for this Corton Grand Cru "Vergennes" 2022 are hand-harvested into small perforated crates before undergoing a rigorous manual sorting process. The grapes are then gently pressed using a vertical press. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small oak barrels over about a fortnight. Finally, the wine is aged on the lees in barrels for 15 to 18 months, giving it complexity and texture.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
