Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Aloxe-Corton "Village" 2023 cuvée by Jean-Charles Fagot

Tasting

Colour
This wine reveals a beautiful red colour, with a classic ruby intensity that promises to evolve towards deep garnet nuances over time.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with expressive notes of red and black fruits. Fresh cherry and raspberry dominate, subtly balanced by touches of blackberry and blackcurrant.

Palate
The palate offers a rich, substantial texture, supported by a tannic structure that is both assertive and perfectly balanced. The whole extends into a finish of lovely persistence.

Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs ideally with full-flavoured red meats such as a beef roast or braised lamb. It also accompanies roasted poultry, duck, as well as traditional dishes in red wine sauce such as coq au vin.

Service and storage
Enjoyable to discover right now, this Aloxe-Corton "Village" 2023 also has fine potential for further development. It should be drunk by around 2028.

The authentic expression of a red Burgundy wine

The estate
Officially founded in 1920, the family estate is now run by Jean-Charles Fagot, who represents the fifth generation in the region. Located in Burgundy, between Corpeau and Chassagne-Montrachet, this three-hectare estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its commitment to offering accessible wines. Also a restaurateur and musician, the winemaker brings a genuine cultural identity to his estate, championing the sincere expression of local terroirs through sustainable practices.

The vineyard
The vines dedicated to producing the Aloxe-Corton appellation thrive at altitudes ranging from 200 to 300 metres, benefiting from a predominantly east-facing exposure. This pivotal terroir between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune rests on reddish-brown soils, rich in limestone, siliceous debris and iron oxide. The work in the vineyard incorporates traditional methods, including ploughing with draft horses, while the harvest is carried out entirely by hand to preserve the quality of the grape clusters.

The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by particularly warm weather conditions and a significant water deficit throughout the growing season. Despite this persistent drought, a few stormy showers at key moments helped prevent excessive stress on the vines. These climatic challenges ultimately resulted in a generous harvest, offering the opportunity for rigorous sorting to retain only the finest berries.

Winemaking and aging
The production of this Aloxe-Corton "Village" 2023 relies on traditional, minimally interventionist methods. Fermentation takes place in open vats over a period of two to three weeks. The wine then benefits from careful aging of twelve to fourteen months, housed in French oak foudres or barrels, allowing for a gentle maturation that respects the fruit.

Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
