Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for La Champine Viognier 2024 Jean-Michel Gérin

Tasting notes

Colour
Coming from carefully controlled yields, the colour of this French white wine stands out for its beautiful depth.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with elegant floral notes, blending white flowers with subtle touches of citrus. It then reveals a lovely intensity, dominated by aromas of yellow fruit and stone fruit such as peach and apricot.

Palate
Generous and richly textured, the palate offers a rounded body without any heaviness. The apricot flavours are perfectly balanced by a freshness preserved through well-present acidity. The long, lingering finish stretches out over fruity notes and a delicate mineral and saline touch.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters or fish delicately prepared with herbs or cream. It will also enhance poultry dishes in creamy sauces, as well as fragrant Asian recipes.

Service and storage

To fully enjoy La Champine Viognier 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 12°C. This vintage can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve optimally until around 2027.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13%.

The pure expression of Viognier by Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin in the Rhône Valley

The estate

Founded in 1983 at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin is an iconic figure in the Rhône Valley. Located in the village of Ampuis in France, the estate played a pioneering role in the region's qualitative revival. Today, Jean-Michel Gérin still runs the family estate, actively supported by his sons Michaël and Alexis. Committed to an environmentally responsible approach with an organic conversion begun in 2020, the estate is distinguished by its determination to convey the unique identity of its terroirs.

The vineyard

Classified under the Vin de France appellation, this vintage comes from young Viognier vines aged five to fifteen years. These plots are planted on granite soils located high on the hillsides, in the northern part of the region. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with yields strictly limited to forty hectolitres per hectare to encourage aromatic concentration. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand.

Winemaking and aging

Following a meticulous hand harvest, the grapes destined for La Champine Viognier 2024 are sorted and then destemmed to avoid any bitterness. Fermentation is triggered naturally through the action of indigenous yeast strains, thereby promoting an authentic expression of the terroir. The wine is then aged entirely in stainless steel tanks for eight months, a method chosen to preserve aromatic freshness and purity of fruit.

Grape variety

This wine is made exclusively from Viognier (100%).
