James Suckling

A well-crafted, textural and precise red from 100-year-old syrah vines on echalas training. The nose shows notes of dark cherries, raspberries, strawberries and black pepper. It's medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. There is a subtle, powdery texture with a refined character and pure quality of fruit toward the finish. Drink or hold.

Ripe red and black fruits, spicy herbs, leather, and a touch of loamy earth and pepper all define the 2022 Crozes-Hermitage, a medium- to full-bodied, nicely balanced, concentrated effort with quality tannins and a balanced, satisfying style that will evolve and drink well for 7–8 years, if not longer.

Description

A refined and expressive Crozes-Hermitage

The estate

Maison Les Alexandrins was born from the partnership of three leading figures in the Vallée du Rhône: Nicolas Jaboulet, Guillaume Sorrel and Alexandre Caso. The latter, an expert in northern terroirs, scouts the best parcels to create cuvées embodying a contemporary vision of the great Rhône classics. Through meticulous aging and precise blends, the Maison seeks immediate harmony, with no compromise on elegance and depth. For this cuvée, part of the grapes comes from the village of Beaumont-Monteux, bringing generosity and clarity, complemented by lots from the lieu-dit Les Pends, near Mercurol, imparting freshness and structure.

The vineyard

This Crozes-Hermitage originates primarily from vines planted in the appellation’s alluvial plain, where the soils combine rolled pebbles, Rhône sediments and silty deposits. To the north, the granite hills recall those of the neighboring Hermitage, while to the south alluvial soils predominate. The south-facing vines benefit from optimal sunshine and the regular influence of the mistral, ensuring ideal sanitary conditions and complete grape ripening.

Grape variety

This Crozes-Hermitage Maison 2022 from Les Alexandrins is 100% Syrah.
