A Generous and Precise Crozes-Hermitage from Maison Les Alexandrins
The Estate
Les Alexandrins officially came into being in 2015, when Maison Nicolas Perrin, founded by Nicolas Jaboulet in Tain-l'Hermitage, took a majority stake in Domaine Les Alexandrins, created in 2009 by Guillaume Sorrel and Alexandre Caso. Located in the Rhône Valley, in Tain-l'Hermitage, the estate is now run by Nicolas Jaboulet and Alexandre Caso, who combine family heritage with expertise in individual parcels. The estate covers 78 hectares certified organic and builds a rigorous selection of terroirs from the Northern Rhône for its négoce cuvées.
The Vineyard
The Crozes-Hermitage Maison 2024 comes mainly from vines located on the alluvial plain of the appellation, complemented by parcels in the village of Beaumont-Monteux. The soils, made up of stony terraces formed from Rhône deposits, give the Syrah a generous, fruity ripeness while preserving aromatic precision. The vines, facing due south, also benefit from the Mistral wind, which is favourable to the health of the vineyard.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage saw a succession of climatic challenges: an episode of spring frost, followed by abundant rainfall until mid-July, conducive to the development of downy mildew, and then a period of summer drought starting in August. Faced with this uneven ripeness, the harvest, which began around 10 September, required daily tasting of the grapes in order to adjust picking dates parcel by parcel and aim for optimal ripeness.
Vinification and Ageing
The making of the Crozes-Hermitage Maison 2024 begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, designed to reveal the fruity aromas of the Syrah. This is followed by a vatting period of about twenty days, combining pumping over at the start of fermentation and punching down at the end of maceration, for a measured extraction. Ageing continues for ten months in truncated conical vats and demi-muids, promoting the integration of the tannins without marking the wine with overly present oaky notes.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Syrah, the only grape variety permitted for red wines of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation.
