The estate
Established in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, Louis Latour is the largest Grand Cru estate in the Côte d'Or in Burgundy, with approximately 28.63 hectares. Led by the eleventh generation of the family, this independent house owns vineyards in the Côtes de Nuits and de Beaune. A pioneer of modern winemaking methods since the 19th century, the estate blends heritage and modernity in its historic Beaune cellars.
The vineyard
Clos du Roi is a small 13-hectare parcel located to the north of the Beaune appellation. This historic terroir, once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and later the French monarchy, benefits from south/southeast exposure on clay-limestone soils. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are traditionally managed with controlled yields of 40 hl/ha and hand harvesting.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking is carried out traditionally in open vats with complete malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place for 10 to 12 months in medium-toast French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, 35% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir.
