The estate
Established in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, Louis Latour represents the largest Grand Cru estate in the Côte d'Or in Burgundy with approximately 28.63 hectares. Under the leadership of the eleventh generation of the family, this independent house owns vineyards on the Côtes de Nuits and de Beaune. A pioneer of modern winemaking methods since the 19th century, the estate combines heritage and modernity in its historic Beaune cellars.
The vineyard
Clos du Roi is a small 13-hectare plot located in the northern part of the Beaune appellation. This historic terroir, once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and later by the French monarchy, benefits from a south/southeast exposure on clay-limestone soils. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are farmed traditionally with controlled yields of 40 hl/ha and hand harvesting.
Winemaking and aging
Traditional vinification takes place in open vats with complete malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 10 to 12 months in medium-toast French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, 35% of which are new.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir.
