The estate
Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, the Maison Louis Latour now represents the largest Côte d'Or Grand Cru estate in Burgundy. This independent family company, led by the Latour family who uphold the tradition of passing down the name Louis through generations, cultivates prestigious parcels such as Corton Grèves and Corton Bressandes. Descended from a cooperage line established since 1731, it combines ancestral traditions and modernity across its exceptional terroirs in the Côte de Beaune.
The vineyard
The "Les Chalumeaux" climat is located near the "Truffières", almost at the summit of the Puligny-Montrachet hillside. This exceptional terroir benefits from a southeast exposure on limestone and marl soils. The vines, averaging 35 years old, root in a subsoil of limestone and scree, yielding a controlled output of 40 hectolitres per hectare. The name of the climat likely originates from the Chalumeau family.
Winemaking and ageing
Manual harvesting is followed by traditional winemaking in oak barrels with full malolactic fermentation. The ageing takes place over 8 to 10 months in medium-toast French oak barrels, 40% of which are new barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage.
Grape variety
This Premier Cru is made exclusively from Chardonnay, the emblematic variety of Burgundy's great White wines.
