Description
The freshness and intensity of a generous yet fresh Condrieu white wine
The estate
A leading light among the great crus of the Northern Rhône Valley, the Paul Jaboulet-Aîné House was founded in 1834 in Tain L'Hermitage. Since 2006, this prestigious estate has been owned by the Frey family, under the direction of Caroline Frey, a renowned oenologist and winegrower. Paul Jaboulet-Aîné tends a 125-hectare winegrowing heritage spread across some of the region’s finest appellations: Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The vineyard
Les Cassines from Paul Jaboulet-Aîné come from the Condrieu appellation, located in the northern part of the Rhône Valley. This white wine is made from vines between 20 and 30 years old, grown on steep terroirs characterized by granite soils.
The wine
The name of this Rhône Valley cuvée pays tribute to the fishermen’s homes that once lined the banks of the Rhône.
Winemaking and aging
Production begins with hand-harvesting the grapes, followed by whole-bunch pressing. Fermentation takes place at low temperature in a range of vessels: barrels, stainless-steel tanks and a concrete egg. Aging then continues on lees for eight months.
Grape variety
Les Cassines 2020 from Paul Jaboulet-Aîné is 100% Viognier.
