Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Saint-Véran Village "Grand Élevage" 2025 from Verget
Tasting notes
Appearance
Brilliant, it reveals a pale yellow hue with green highlights in its youth, evolving towards golden shades with time.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white flowers, apple and pear, mingled with hints of citrus. The ageing adds subtle nuances of hazelnut, fresh almond, butter and toasted bread.
Palate
Endowed with a fine mineral tension and refreshing acidity, the palate stands out for its dense texture and flattering richness. The finish is long, lingering and delicately saline.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with fish with a silky texture, a seafood risotto, or white meats in a creamy sauce such as a veal blanquette. It also goes very well with goat's cheese or a mature Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this wine at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, taking care to let it breathe or decant it half an hour before serving. This 2025 vintage can be cellared until around 2032 to reveal its full complexity.
The Expression of a Great Mâconnais Chardonnay by Maison Verget
The Estate
Founded in 1990 in Sologny, in the heart of Burgundy, Maison Verget is the fruit of the vision of Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine. Still led today by Jean-Marie Guffens, alongside technical director Julien Desplans, this house stands out for its haute couture approach to négoce. Rather than buying finished wines, the estate rigorously selects grapes from partner growers. Renowned for its exceptional mastery of vinification and ageing, Verget elevates the terroirs of the Mâconnais by producing cuvées of great purity.
The Vineyard
The grapes behind this Saint-Véran wine come from several plots located in the northern part of the appellation, mainly in the communes of Davayé and Prissé. The vines thrive notably on the famous Les Châtaigniers climat. Resting on limestone and clay-limestone soils with varied exposures, this terroir gives the berries optimal ripeness while preserving a fine mineral tension. The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve the integrity of the bunches.
Vinification and Ageing
After careful sorting and slow whole-bunch pressing, the juices undergo a double fermentation, alcoholic and malolactic. These take place in stainless steel tanks as well as in oak barrels for approximately 60% of the volume, with a quarter new oak. Ageing then continues for 15 months on fine lees, in tanks and foudres, allowing the wine to gain density and aromatic complexity.
Grape Variety
Chardonnay (100%).
