Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Cairanne 2023 by Xavier Vignon
Food and Wine Pairings
This Cairanne pairs beautifully with robust red meats, such as duck breast with blackcurrant cream sauce or grilled rib of beef with thyme. It also works very well with soft-rind cheeses, such as a Brie with walnuts.
Serving and Cellaring
According to specialist critics, the Cairanne 2023 Xavier Vignon has fine ageing potential, extending beyond 2030.
An Old-Vine Cairanne by Xavier Vignon, Combining Altitude Freshness and Southern Sunshine
The Estate
Established in the Rhône Valley since 1996, Xavier Vignon is a consulting oenologist turned winemaker, who now runs his own estate based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. After twenty-five years advising numerous estates in the southern Rhône, he acquired around thirty hectares of vines, which he vinifies using ageing methods of his own design. His approach, at once scientific and artisanal, now favours organic viticulture for a large share of his production, asserting an identity founded on a detailed understanding of the terroirs of the southern Rhône.
The Vineyard
The grapes for the Cairanne 2023 come from old vines aged between 80 and 100 years, planted on the highest plots of the Cairanne appellation, at an altitude of around 250 metres. They grow on the limestone scree of the Montagne du Ventabren, a free-draining terroir conducive to freshness, complemented by garrigue plots located further south, with sunnier, more generous soils. The entire vineyard is farmed according to organic principles.
Grape Varieties
The Cairanne 2023 Xavier Vignon is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault.
